Executive function coaching is a structured but conversational process that helps you understand how your brain works, identify what is getting in the way, and build practical strategies for moving forward. It is not about being told what to do. It is about working things out together, at a pace that suits you, in a way that fits your life.
Sessions draw on neuroscience-informed approaches and an executive function framework.
What happens during executive function coaching?
Each session is a guided conversation, not a lecture or a lesson. The process moves through a natural arc, though it is flexible and always led by what you need.
Making sense of what is going on
We start by looking at what is getting in the way and why. We explore your executive function profile, any layers that may be affecting your executive function skills, your strengths as well as your challenges, and begin to make sense of the patterns you have probably noticed for years but never set aside the time to explore.
Building strategies that work for you
Executive function coaching is practical and collaborative. We brainstorm, break tasks down, look at your environment, and trial different approaches. Nothing is prescribed. Everything is built around what might actually work for you, using your existing strengths as the foundation.
Realistic, achievable, and manageable long term
The coaching conversation helps you to break bigger goals into steps that are realistic, achievable, and manageable over the long term. We do not just focus on what needs to happen today. We find ways of keeping your eyes on the bigger picture too, so that small consistent progress builds towards something meaningful.
Reflecting, refining, and building independence
Each session includes time to look back at what has and has not worked. There is no judgement, only curiosity. Over time, the aim is for you to leave with a genuine understanding of how you work and with strategies you can continue to use on your own. The goal is lasting change, not ongoing dependence on coaching.
Executive function coaching and therapy are different things. Both can be valuable, and for some people they work well alongside each other. But it is important to be clear about what coaching is and is not.

a practical, goal-oriented, and collaborative process, that focuses on the present and future through guided conversation.

therapy, counselling, or a diagnostic service, and it is not a substitute for medical or psychological support.
Executive function coaching is not only for people with a diagnosis, and it is not only for people who feel like everything is falling apart. Everyone has a mix of executive function strengths and challenges. A lot of what is on this website will resonate with people who have never had a diagnosis and are managing perfectly well most of the time.
If there are one or two areas of your life where things feel harder than you would like, and you are curious about why that might be and what you could do about it, that is a completely valid reason to explore coaching. You do not need to be drowning to benefit from understanding yourself better.
Sessions run for 50 minutes and take place online via Google Meet, so there is nothing to install and no commute involved. You just need a quiet space and a reliable internet connection.
A standard coaching engagement is a block of 8 or 12 sessions. For most people, this is enough time to develop a solid understanding of their executive functions, build a set of practical strategies, and reach a point where they can reflect and self-manage with confidence.
After your block, you are welcome to continue with further support if you would find that helpful. That might be weekly for a period, fortnightly, monthly, or simply as and when you feel you need a session. There is no pressure to commit to anything beyond what feels right for you.
We will talk about what has been going on for you, what you are hoping coaching might help with, and what has and has not worked in the past. I want to understand your situation properly, and you will want to get a sense of whether working with me feels like a good fit.
Executive function coaching works best when there is a genuine connection and a shared understanding of what we are working towards.
For a long time, it was believed that the brain was largely fixed by adulthood. We now know that Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new connections and adapt, continues throughout life.
It does take longer in adults than in children, and it requires consistent, repeated practice rather than a single step. But, it is possible! The strategies we co-create in coaching aren’t just workarounds (although you may choose to make some environmental adaptions) they’re ways of gradually rewiring how your brain approaches the things that have always felt hard.
Understanding your executive functions is where that process begins.
